Everything is billed on matrix elements, so there is exactly one number to forecast. A directions call costs a flat amount. An isochrone costs more the further it reaches — a five-minute one is the same flat amount, and the price climbs with the square of the range.
An element is one origin paired with one destination.
Ask for 200 origins against 150 destinations and you have spent 30,000 elements — whether you send it as one request or thirty. Splitting a matrix up does not cost more, and it does not cost less.

How billing behaves
You cannot spend more than you meant to
Every plan card above says what happens at the allowance — stop, or keep serving and bill the excess. Whichever the card says is what the service does, and there is no third behaviour where you find out at the end of the month.
Failed calls are not charged
Anything that returns a 4xx or 5xx costs nothing. Elements are counted from the matrix we actually computed, not the one you asked for.
Change or cancel in the dashboard
Upgrades take effect immediately and are prorated. Downgrades take effect at the end of the period. There is no annual commitment and no call to book.
Questions people actually ask
- How big can a single matrix be?

Far larger than the per-request caps you are used to. The same ceiling applies on every paid tier and on the free one: it exists to protect the service from a single enormous request, not as a lever to move you up a plan. The exact number is on the pricing page and in every rejection message, so you never have to guess at it. If you need something past it, say so and we will talk about it rather than silently truncating your request.
- Can I cache or store the results?

Yes, indefinitely. Durations and distances you compute are yours to keep. This is one of the real differences from the terms attached to the big commercial APIs, and we do not intend to walk it back. One honest caveat, because the underlying map data is licensed under the ODbL: internal storage and use are unconditionally fine, but a database you assemble from these results and then publicly redistribute may itself carry the licence’s share-alike obligation.
- What does "attribution required" mean on Free?

The underlying map data is OpenStreetMap, licensed under the ODbL, and that attribution has to reach the person looking at the map. Paid tiers still carry the OpenStreetMap obligation; what drops away is the requirement to credit us.
- What happens when the road network is updated?

The routing graph is rebuilt from a fresh OpenStreetMap extract and swapped in, and every response carries the build date it was routed against — so a change in the data is something you can see rather than something you have to be told. During the private beta a swap takes the service down for a few minutes, and partners hear about it beforehand. Rolling the update across instances so that requests keep being served throughout is a condition of our public launch, not something we are claiming today.
- Do you have a European graph?

Not yet. North America and the driving profile are what is live today. Europe and a truck profile are the two things most likely to come next, and customers asking is how they get prioritised.
- Is there a free trial of the paid tiers?

The free tier is the trial, and it is not time-limited. The monthly allowance is enough to build against and, for plenty of small products, enough to run on indefinitely. We would rather you stayed on it until you genuinely outgrow it than pay us early and resent it.
