Terms of Service
These terms cover your use of the API. Two of them come from the licence on the underlying map data rather than from us, and those two are the ones worth reading properly.

Who you are contracting with
The service is operated by Optimization Services, LLC, a limited liability company organised in Indiana, United States. "We" and "us" mean that company; "you" means the person or organisation using the API.
What the service is
An HTTP API returning travel-time matrices, routes and reachable areas, computed over a road network built from OpenStreetMap data. It covers North America and the driving profile only.
We do not provide geocoding, places, elevation or route optimisation. If your application needs those, it needs another provider as well as us.
The service has no live traffic data. Results reflect the road network, not conditions at the time you ask.
Your key
Access requires an API key. Keep it secret, do not commit it to a public repository, and tell us promptly if you believe it has been exposed so we can rotate it.
Usage authenticated by your key is your responsibility, including usage by anyone you give it to.
A key placed in a web page or a mobile application is public. If you choose to do that, you accept the usage it attracts.
Limits
Every tier carries a rate limit, a size limit on a single request, and a monthly allowance. The current values are published on the pricing page and in the API reference, and they are the values the service enforces — there is no separate set held privately.
We may refuse or throttle requests to protect the service. A refusal is an HTTP error with a machine-readable code, never a silent truncation of your result.
Paying, and not paying
Paid plans are billed monthly in advance. Usage beyond a plan's allowance is billed at the published overage rate, except on tiers that stop rather than bill, which are marked as such.
Evaluate before you pay, and treat that as the trial: the free evaluation tier exists so you can run real traffic against the service without a commitment. We do not offer refunds beyond it, so please satisfy yourself there first.
Requests that fail are not billed.
What you may do with the results
The durations, distances and geometries you receive are yours. Cache them, store them, build tables from them, keep them for as long as you like. We claim no ownership of your results and no right to your input data.
There are two exceptions, and neither is ours. They come from the Open Database License on the OpenStreetMap data the road network is built from, and they would apply to any provider using the same data.
Attribution — the first licence obligation
If your application shows these results to people, it must credit OpenStreetMap. The credit is "© OpenStreetMap contributors", linked to openstreetmap.org/copyright, placed where a user of your application can see it.
This obligation passes through to you. We credit OpenStreetMap on this site and in every API response, and that satisfies our obligation, not yours.
This is a licence condition, not a preference of ours, and we cannot waive it.
Share-alike — the second licence obligation
Using the results inside your own application is unconditionally fine, however you store them and for however long.
The obligation appears only if you assemble a database from these results and then publicly redistribute that database. In that case the Open Database License's share-alike condition may reach it, meaning the database you publish must carry the same licence.
Internal use is not redistribution. Showing results to your own users is not redistribution. Publishing a derived dataset for others to download is.
What we do not promise
The service is provided as it is. During the invitation-only period there is no service level agreement, no uptime commitment and no support response time, and we say so rather than implying otherwise.
Routing results are estimates computed from a snapshot of open map data. They may be wrong. Do not rely on them where being wrong is dangerous.
To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
Ending it
You may stop using the service at any time. Cancelling a paid plan stops the next renewal; it does not refund the current period.
We may suspend or terminate access for non-payment, for use that endangers the service or other customers, or for use that breaks these terms or the law. Where circumstances allow we will tell you first.
Changes
We may change these terms. Material changes will be published here with a new date, and where we have your address we will tell you before they take effect.
Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept it.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Indiana, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. The courts of Indiana have exclusive jurisdiction.
